Members present: Bob Crook, Gene Ezell, Don Masterson, Jan Miller, MaryLynn Perry, Nancy Robertson, Earle Self, Kyle Siegrist, Liz Thornton and Greg Wright.
The meeting was called to order at the Monte Sano Lodge by President MaryLynn Perry.
Earle Self moved that last month's Minutes be approved. Nancy Robertson seconded. Motion passed. A copy is filed in the Minutes notebook.
Earle agreed to represent the MSCA at the City of Huntsville Civic Association meetings.
Susan (Soos) Weber explained the National Wildlife Federation Certification requirements. The goal would be for Monte Sano to become certified as a community by earning 250 points. Soos would be willing to hold a workshop informing Monte Sano residents how they can help in the certification process. Points are earned in various ways such as a community garden, backyard wildlife habitats, growing native plants, eliminating invasive plants, etc.
Nancy moved to endorse the National Wildlife Federation Certification project and MaryLynn seconded. Motion passed. Gene Ezell made a motion that the MSCA pay any fees associated with the National Wildlife Certification and Greg Wright seconded. Motion passed.
MaryLynn will contact Soos for information to post on the Monte Sano website. Soos will speak at the MSCA Spring Potluck about the project.
Kyle Siegrist posted old MSCA newsletters on the website and created a Facebook page for the MSCA as well as a Twitter account. He will put the approved Minutes on the MSCA website each month. The deadline for newsletter articles is March 15.
Don Masterson voiced concern about the future of the Monte Sano Elementary School. The Board agreed to support the school however needed. Jan Miller will talk to Ed Starnes regarding the school situation and ask him to speak at the March Board meeting. After speaking with Ed, Jan will email a summary of his opinion to the Board .
Greg said that one-half of the directories have been handed out by The Little Green Store. Greg offered to reimburse Anna Byrne $175 which is the difference between the cost of directory ads for the back page and the inside page. Anna accepted & a check will be written to her.
The Spring Potluck will be held on Tuesday, April 26 providing the lodge is available. Don will contact David Blair from the School Board to speak at the meeting. MaryLynn will talk to Kent Wilbourn about financial arrangements for community events at the lodge.
It was decided to postpone the wine tasting until early summer & possibly combine it with the Monte Sano Pool Board.
The By-laws review will be addressed in July and will be presented at the October MSCA general meeting.
MaryLynn will contact other mountain organizations to see if they want to put pictures and updated information on Facebook.
The MSCA Board Adopt-A-Mile Cleanup will be each month on the Saturday after the Board meeting from 10:00am - noon. Board members are to bring trash bags and meet on Lookout Dr.
The Community Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 8:00am - noon. A rain date was set for the following Saturday, May 14. A Salvation Army truck will be at The Little Green Store from noon - 2:00pm to collect any unwanted sale items.
Greg agreed to compile a welcome packet for newcomers to Monte Sano.
Earle will check into the need for filing for a MSCA tax exempt status with the IRS.
Bob Crook will draft the potential MSCA spending for 2011.
